![]() So that being said, let’s move on to the actual content of this post. Tl dr: When you’re a repeat offender, everything is suspect. But it’s the little things, constantly adding up, that caught my attention. Maybe she pulled some of it from Tolkien and some of it is similar by accident. But some of it seems more than coincidental. Of course, all fantasy has its similarities and most fantasy borrows from Tolkien. We all have standards and tastes, and if there are mistakes or missteps, we need to be aware of them, ya know?Īnd yes, some of these similarities are a bit of a stretch. People keep equating criticism to hatred when, in reality, we should be critical of the things we like. I’m going to borrow something my good friend book_of_maciah said (when I asked for his input on this post): Although I take issue with a lot of her writing, I do enjoy the Throne of Glass series.īut we can be critical of something even if we like it. I just want to say: I am not here to hate on Sarah J Maas. Initially, this was just going to be a section in my Kingdom of Ash review, (because that book is the worst offender), but I just kept stumbling across more and more until it was longer than the review itself. Sarah J Maas really, really, really likes The Lord of the Rings. I’d noticed it before, but the more I thought about it, the worse it seems: As I’ve been working on my reviews for the Throne of Glass series ( you can see them all here), I’ve started to notice something. ![]()
